I chose to apply at The University of Tokyo due to its great reputation and the opportunities students are given. Both the university and Japan are splendid places. Nevertheless, the bureaucracy can sometimes be burdensome. However, thanks to the help of the MEM office, it is made much easier for people not knowing Japanese or the culture to have a smooth start into the new life. I am very happy with the decision of applying at Todai through the MEM program and sincerely suggest everybody do the same who is interested in experiencing a new culture and conducting research at a top-tier university.
